Look for a short in the ECU harness. A broken wire sheath or corroded wire is usually the culprit, IME.

Look at your main cats underneath the car. They're just earlier those. The wiring goes upward the transmission, back by the firewall and are the greenish and brown 4 wire connection harnesses mounted there.

wow I detest to sound stupid. thats on the driver side and master cat ways. I had the auto a mechanic here in pa and spend a lot of money to go the check engine light off and I still have the aforementioned problem.

My stage iii car is currently doing the same. Information technology seems as though information technology only happens when I am on the throttle hard (running third to the meridian of 4th gear). Any insight?

Check the service manual. I but hunted around and constitute the cause of this on my 2002 S6 that's been converted to a manual.
I pinched one of the engine mount solenoid wires betwixt the engine mount and the mounting bracket. Just finished replacing all the front intermission arms. Whoops. twenty miles later and it grounded out. Blew the fuse continuously. I unplugged everything, except the engine mounts. Went to await at those, and this is what I saw.
On this particular model there are a bunch of dark-green/xanthous wires branching off from fuse 34. It is common across most audi models of this yr range. It outset branches to the back, to the leak detection pump. So check there for a short upwardly to and including it.
After that, there'south other things. Four O2 sensor heaters. Secondary air injection solenoid. Evap solenoid. Both engine mounts. And in my example two intake manifold actuator solenoids, what controls the vacuum flapper valves. My service manual does not evidence the camshaft tensioner solenoids branching off what is called D22, this wire. The mass airflow meter gets power from this as well. If information technology's a yellowish wire with a green stripe, anywhere under the hood, that is your wire, it's similar a power supply motorbus to everything that moves or gets warm.
So basically start disconnecting things, 1 at a fourth dimension. Keep a close eye on that wire in reference to ground. Leave a digital voltmeter hooked up to it while you disconnect things. Leave the fuse blown. When it stops showing a brusk to ground, that thing you lot just disconnected was it. If you run out of things, information technology's the wiring, not your solenoids. Good news? Peradventure.
Offset hunting for metal on wire contact.
